It was just another day at the office for Chris, the founder of Stat Legend, an Overland Park-based startup that’s been capturing the essence of youth sports one card at a time. That was until a message from Chad McFarland at Visit OP brought a proposal that would tie the past, present, and promise of baseball together.
"Chris, do you want to make baseball cards that will be given to the College Baseball Hall of Fame inductees?" That simple question was enough to set the team at Stat Legend on a path to create cards that weren't just collectibles but snippets of history meant to honor legends.
It was a proposal that merged Stat Legend's ambition with the grandeur of baseball heritage.
But this project was different; it was personal. Among the inductees was none other than Alex Gordon, Chris's own baseball hero renowned for a legendary homerun in Game 1 of the World Series—a moment that transcended time and had now come full circle as Chris got to design Gordon’s induction card.
Designed intricately, each card served as a centerpiece item—bestowed to each inductee as a materialized token of legacy. In an act of solidarity and community giving, a second set was signed and auctioned off, blurring the lines between sports memorabilia and philanthropy.
This project underscored Stat Legend's unique value proposition. With an e-commerce site launch set for April, featuring a tech-savvy "random generator" for bonus features on the cards, the startup is not just printing cards but is printing chapters of sports history for each youth athlete.
These cards stand out as milestones that Stat Legend targets to offer to its growing nationwide audience—sports enthusiasts, card collectors, and the youth sports community at large.
For Chris and his team at Stat Legend, this project was a testament to their company philosophy: making sports more fun and encapsulating the moments that craft legends. It's an ethos that echoes beyond Overland Park, instilling passion and pride into the hearts of youth athletes, parents, and the baseball community.
Stat Legend's story, much like those encapsulated in their cards, continues to evolve, driven by a commitment to quality and a deep respect for the game. The Hall of Fame project was a reminder that every swing has the potential to make history, and every player, the chance to become a legend in their own right.
Whether you're a hero of the World Series or a little leaguer just starting out, Stat Legend believes there's a legend in every player, waiting to be immortalized one card at a time.
